Q4 Week 1

Reminder: We will be having a pod field trip to the Natural History Museum on April 2nd. 

Items for this week:

Quiz: Living, Non-living, Dead, and Viruses. On Tuesday, 4/1. Use your Characteristics of Living Things notes to prepare. If you did not master this quiz you will need to study and retake it.

*Field Trip: Those going on the field trip to the Utah Natural History Museum will have a packet that will need to be completed during the trip and will be turned in for credit in science. Those not going on the trip will have a work packet to complete at school.

Classy Chart: Students will continue working on the Classy Chart. It will be  due on Friday, 4/4. Remember the rules for scientific names when doing this assignment (see the back of the chart). See previous post for downloads for this assignment.

6 Kingdoms Grid: grid of characteristics of the 6 Kingdoms. This will be due on Friday 4/4 and will serve as a review study guide for the quiz.

*Note: If you were absent for the field trip or did not come on the field trip there is a make-up assignment that you will get from Ms. LeSueur.

Reminder: The end of quarter Late Work Deadline is Friday, March 21st.

*Bizarre Beaks: Students will be playing a game/lab where they will have different beaks adapted to eat different types of “food”. Students will record data of the number on items eaten and if they survive each season. Bizzare Beaks Worksheet

Q3 Week 7

Items for this week:

Bird Adaptations Group Project: See post from 3/5/14 for handouts. Students will be finishing and presenting their bird’s adaptations to the class on Monday and Tuesday.

Natural and Artificial Selection Lesson and Notes: See Adaptations Power Point on post 2/25/14. Students will be having a lesson and taking notes on natural and artificial selection.

Dogs and More Dogs: Students will be watching and discussing a movie which deals with different theories of how the domesticated dog came to be through natural and artificial selection. Dog and More Dogs Worksheet

Natural History Museum Field Trip

The Minion Pod will be taking a field trip to the Utah Natural History Museum on April 2nd!

Here is some info about the trip:

  • There is no fee for students or chaperones.
  • Each chaperone will watch over a group of 8 students.
  • We will need parents to ride the bus.
  • Bus load time will be approximately 11:00am at the school. We will gather into groups at 10:36 in the school auditorium. Parents, please be at the school by 10:30am.
  • Bus arrive time at the museum will be approximately 11:30am.
  • Students will be eating before the trip at 10:03am in the school cafeteria.
  • Bus load time at the end of the trip will be 1:00pm.
  • Buses will return to the school by 2:00pm.
  • A chaperone information packet, along with a list of students in your group, will be given to you in the week prior to our trip.  Students will also be given an assignment to work on during their visit.

  • Students who do not turn in a permission slip will be doing work packets for Utah Studies, Language Arts, and Science with a substitute during their normal pod class time.

Q3 Week 6

Items for this week:

Planet Earth Deserts: Students will be watching an episode of Planet Earth and recording the problems that desert plants and animals face and what adaptations they have developed to cope with this harsh environment. If you were absent you will have to look these up on the internet. Planet Earth – Deserts

Bird Adaptations: Students will be gathering into groups (but may work solo if they choose) to create a bird to live in an unusual environment chosen by the teacher. The group will use real bird parts – provided by a handout and library books, to create their bird’s adaptations.

Q3 Week 4

Items for this week:

Reproduction Notes and Literary Circles: Students will be learning about the difference between Sexual and Asexual reproduction as well as looking at some examples of plants and animals that use these methods of reproduction. The Literary Circles paper and organism packets are available for pick-up in my class. Sexual & Asexual Reproduction Lesson

Quiz: Students will have a quiz on Reproduction on Wednesday 2/19. Use the analysis questions on the back of the Literary Circles sheet and your power point notes to help you study.

Q3 Week 3

Items for this Week:

Study Guide Questions  for the FinalStudy Guide for Final. The final will cover cells, osmosis, and the 5 Levels of Organization in Living Things.

We will be going over the correct answers to the study guide on Tuesday as well as playing a review game.  The final will be on Wednesday, February 12th.  Remember your grades on the final are FINAL! No retakes!
